How to install .sh file in Linux

terminal iconsh is a shell script especially designed for Linux/UNIX operating system. When you download the certain application for Linux .sh file extension might be the common one that you see most of the time. Now to run .sh file extension you have to use terminal. The process is same like executing .bin file. However here is the full tutorial involved in the process.

Open your terminal and run the following command

Chmod is a change mode command where x represent execute. chmod command is used for various purpose. In our case we are simply trying to set an executable permission to the file

chmod +x file.sh
./file.sh

Lets assume you are installing the netbeans. The file is under .sh extension and the file is in home directory. Therefore I can simply run the following command to execute the file.

chmod +x netbeans.sh
./netbeans.sh

Another way to run .sh file in Linux

sh filename.sh

OR

bash filename.sh

In our case either it will be

sh netbeans.sh

OR

bash netbeans.sh
