Shell script to Install xampp in Linux

We have create a short tutorial to install xampp on ubuntu  (works on every Linux distribution). We have received the tremendous feedback from the users. Despite of the complete step by step guide, some people still find complication to install xampp on Linux. Therefore to simplify the installation process, we have create a shell script that will install the Xampp. You don’t need to follow the clumsy steps, just run a shell script then you are done. The shell script will automatically download the xampp and install it on your computer and change the htdocs permission . The shell script includes the version 1.80 xampp which is the latest version of the xampp. The script handle all the process including download, installation and permission change of htdocs, However the script doesn’t install the GUI of xampp for linux

Note: XAMPP is released under the GNU General Public License. This script only simplify the installation of xampp  in Linux.

How does this shell script work(Technical Background)

The first line in the script show that path of the sh which runs the script file. This script does three things. First, download the source code of xampp using wget, extract the downloaded source code in /opt directory and finally change the permission of htdocs. There are four ways in which you can use the wget command. If you are unfamiliar with the file permission, see the chmod tutorial.

How to install shell script

Shell script can be installed easily. You can follow the step by step guide to install shell script. The process can be completed with two simple steps. After the installation you can easily operate the xampp by using the following command.

Start Xampp

/opt/lampp/lampp start

Stop Xampp

/opt/lampp/lampp stop

or you can install the xampp GUI to control panel the operation through graphical interface.
